Please do not include the plant. The picture is dark, but I want the painting to be more bright. You are free to play around with the background since the focus will be the father and daughter, but I thought a fading background might be nice (i.e., the background fades as it goes to the corners/edges). This is a fond memory for my mother-in-law of her late father, so when she sees this painting, I want her to see a loving memory and strike an emotional response (if that makes sense).
