An amazing artist and was so great at communicating!

Hi! I would like to have my girlfriend's dog be captured but the background can be changed to something more vibrant and colorful! I would love to get some opinions since I am no expert. I know my girlfriend loved the idea of a splash watercolor a long time ago ( I am not sure what that is) but any advice/thoughts would be for the background
